Yes, he's happy to be here and feeling good. No, that's not his favorite gait! River hadn't had the best life before I bought him, but he's making up for it now. He's fat and happy, and a dream to work with, especially when you have so many studs together. River's sire was the immortal Missouri Traveler E., and his dam was a double registered TWH/MFT.
River has the rhythm of his sire, with the added reach of his dam. I am no photographer when it comes to capturing the extended foxtrot, but I guarantee you this guy has it. Not only is the reach and rhythm phenomenal, but it's completely natural. Lord knows I haven't done anything to enhance his movements, unless you count caked on mud as ankle or toe weights!
River is primarily retired from riding, and used as a breeding stallion now. He's so easy to breed that we don't use a stud chain on him, and we have to be careful not to overcorrect him or he'll back away completely. It would seem as if he's had some rough handling in his past as he can be pretty timid in new situations. All the bad is over now though.
River has sired some gorgeous and talented foals. We currently have him bred to a direct daughter of Sundust E. for a 2012 foal. It will either be palomino or sorrel, but it will be darned talented regardless of the color. If it turns out half as well as the first two on the left, I"ll be beyond thrilled. There aren't many good Traveler sons left, and I'd like to see this guy carry on the line. Maybe I should buy more mares.....NOT!
