Smokey D's Sterling Star

Smokey, as we call her,
has the proud
distinction to be a
granddaughter of Zane
Grey, and to carry some
of the oldest lines in the
foxtrotter breed, with
Shoshone and Diamond
King right on her
pedigree.  She is brown
papered.
Smokey came to me through the
graciousness of Roger Rapplean.  His
wife Karin passed away last year, and
when I came to look at some other
horses, he told me Smokey was carrying
a Danney's Legacy baby and offered to
sell her to me.  The last thing I needed
was another mare, but this one was
special, so she was loaded in the trailer
and came home with me that day.  I
thought I had to be nuts to buy a 21
year old mare, but that thought soon
went out the window.
After the quality filly she threw, I
thought long and hard about
breeding her back, but, she is 22 and
deserves a rest.  And, after seeing
this filly, I don't think she could
improve any on the next foal, so she
will now join the retirement band.
She is GREAT at accompanying
maiden mares through their birth
ordeal, and provides a steady
influence on first time mares after
they have foaled.
