Yes, it's the grand ole' man himself.! Damn Yankee has belonged to Bob Blackwell for many, many years. Unfortunately Bob hasn't been well lately and is undergoing treatment, so Damn Yankee is now part of Zorro Farms. We welcome the grand ole' man, and will be selectively breeding him to some of our mares. He won't be standing to outside mares as a general rule, as he is semi-retired at age 24. Don't get me wrong, he's healthy, very happy, and would be more than willing to service some mares, but we're going to use him for our mares first and then take it case by case.
Yankee is a direct son of Mack K's Yankee, and has reach galore. He's incredibly well trained, easy to ride, easy to handle, and very sweet and laid back. We'll be posting more pictures as we fatten him up (it's what we do best). For right now, he's extremely happy with his situation, with his favorite part of the day being turnout. He immediately foxtrots over to see "his" mares, and then ambles off for breakfast. Nothing better than good feed, great care and a pleasant view. And he even has his eye on Midnight Blue. Don't tell him, but the next time she comes in heat, we plan on letting him breed her. It should be a fantastic cross!
Lady would make a heck of a show horse with work, but if not ridden everyday, you'll find yourself reaching for the horn. Evidently she didn't have a lot of guidance when young. So, since (again) I have eaten enough dirt for a lifetime, I will use her as a broodmare, and put her under saddle only to show what she's capable of. Oh... Fancy is also homozygous black, so she isn't hurting in the color department. And as a direct granddaughter of both Mack K's Yankee and Frosty's Rootbeer, I'd venture to say there aren't a lot like her left. Fancy is bred to Lobo for a June 2007 foal
